Emergence of Taekwondo in Tamilnadu

                                      



                                         

 This blog is mainly created to promote Korean style of Martial Arts Taekwondo, which is not only a self -defence art but also comes under recognised sports in International Olympic Committee.

About Taekwondo


Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques. The First Taekwondo instructor in India was Jimmy R.Jagtiani, 1st Dan Black Belt in taekwondo and who began teaching in 1975. In the year 1976 the Taekwondo Federation of India was formed and established as a National Body of Taekwondo in India. Jimmy R. Jagtiani was the founder, President of TFI. The World Taekwondo Federation accorded affiliation to the Taekwondo Federation of India in 1978, the Asian Taekwondo Union in 1982, the Indian Olympic Association in 1985 and the South Asian Taekwondo Federation in 1994 respectively. The Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India also granted recognition of the Taekwondo Federation of India as an apex judicial and autonomous National body of Taekwondo in India in 1988.

           
Taekwondo Association of Tamilnadu  is registered with Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu in 1995 and gives training to various professionals like Police, Army, school students etc., This kind of martial art practice makes a person professionally fit in body and mind.

Taekwondo Association of Tamilnadu is founded by Master P.K.Ganesan in 1995 and started his physical Education to the aspirants with his advanced techniques learned by his fore masters. He is the main reason for this art developed and became popular in every nook and corner around Tamilnadu. His motto is to create young generations with a complete personality by train them with multi-talented professional activities. He has trained more than 1000 number of students with colour belts and more than 150 students achieved black belts and became masters’ in the early 90’s. 

The techniques he using and teaching in Taekwondo (according to the rule) is somewhat in a distinct manner, because of his 35 years of experience and his passion towards this martial art. He is always advising his students to be honest, fit and energetic. By doing this so, he is teaching yoga and meditation to his students for the clear mind set and build their confidence. He is also well versed in Yoga, Meditation, Varma and Siddha Medicine.

Master’s activities and achievements

Before entering into the Taekwondo, he is engaged in various activities (practicing and teaching) like Wrestling, stick fighting, Karate and Yoga to the period from 1978 to 1986.  At 1987, he is qualified as a black belt in Taekwondo trained by Master Francis Xavier on 31.05.1987



During that period, Master P.K.Ganesan demonstrated yoga to the aspirants to promote and created awareness among his students and the outsiders. He says that this miracle happens by doing daily routine Taekwondo exercises, our body accumulates power and the level of spiritual consciousness increases by doing some special poses in yoga. This inner science chemistry spiritually connect our astral body and create a force inside ourselves that makes our body spontaneously gets released from gravitational force. This action seems a body flying in the air for a while.

He joined in Tamilnadu Taekwondo Association which comes under Taekwondo Federation of India with Master Paneerselvam at 1989, through him he specially got trained by Master Jimmy R.Jagtiani.
In 1985, Malaysian master Francis Xavier shortlisted 9 candidates out of 48 from Indian army Taekwondo students who are selected for black belt championship in 1987 and under the team head of Master Francis Xavier, more than 500 students trained in Tamilnadu by Master P.K.Ganesan.


                         

In 1988, he participated 3rd state taekwondo association competition with his students in Chennai and his district students got 3rd place in overall performance.


                    
In 1988, he (Coach) and his team attended 4th Tamilnadu Taekwondo Association championship and won 4 medals in Salem district organised by general secretary P.Nedumaran and N.Ramachandran (Treasurer) 14.2.88

In 1989, 5th State Taekwondo championship held at Mettur( Salem) organised by Master P.K.Ganesan and his students and won 14 medals with honours (5-gold,4-silver, 5-bronze) and made his district team to the first place.

In 1989, again the same team who attended 5th state Taekwondo Championship students got selected to 10th National Taekwondo championship tournament at Lucknow for the period 19.09.1989-21.09.1989


                     
In 1989, Yercaud Development and Tourism promotion society conducted Sports and Games summer festival in Yercaud. Master P.K.Ganesan participated and demonstrated Taekwondo and Yoga programmes and awarded as a Best performer.

In 1989, he awarded as a Referee in the 5th State Taekwondo Championships held at Chemplast Indoor Stadium, Mettur, Salem.

                  
In 1990, he participated and certified as a coach in 11th National Women’s and 1st National Men’s Black belt Taekwondo Championships at Bangalore and won 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals by his team.

In 1991, he attended 6th Tamilnadu State Taekwondo championship and awarded as Tamilnadu team coach in salem district and won 2 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals by his team.

                                              
In 1992, Master P.K.Ganesan attended black belt test held at lucknow (TFI) with 7 of his students and all of them qualified as Black belt holders.  (They are the first team who has achieved more number of black belts from Tamilnadu in a national level test and this credit goes to Master P.K.Ganesan)

              
In 1993, he attended and awarded as a Referee in South Arcot District Taekwondo Association competition conducted by 7th State Taekwondo Championship and won 9 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze medals by his students.

                 
In 1995, he attended 8th State Taekwondo Championship held at Madras University union Indoor Stadium as a Referee and won 7 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze medals by his students.

In 1996, he appreciated as a Impartial referee in 9th State Taekwondo Championship held at St.Joseph’s College, Trichy and won 5 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals by his team.

In 1996, he participated as a Referee in First Invitational Interstates Taekwondo organised by Tamilnadu Taekwondo Training School at Madras University and won 5 gold, 11 silver and 3 bronze medals by his team.

In 1997, Master P.K.Ganesan attended black belt test held at Pondicherry (which is the first black belt test in Pondicherry) 6 of his students participated and all of them qualified as Black belt holders, and the test conducted by Grand Master Jimmy R.Jagtiani .

In 1998, Taekwondo Academy of Tamilnadu conducted 1st State Taekwondo Black Belt Championship held at D.B.Hindi prachar Sabha, Trichy organised by Master N.Mohanarangan and invited Master P.K.Ganesan (General secretary and chief Instructor, Salem district),Master M.Ganesan (Technical Director of TATN), Master T.K Rajasekaran (General Secretary TATN) as a special guest (as Jury) and examined by Grand Master Jimmy R.Jagtiani( Kukkiwon Black belt) and won 54 black belts and also conducted tournaments. Masters’ students won 7 gold , 5 silver and 3 bronze medals in the same event.

                                          
In 1999, Master P.K.Ganesan (Founder of Pondicherry Taekwondo) trained students for selection of National championship for both colour and black belt (seniors) headed by Pondicherry Taekwondo President Master M.Ilangovan and Master K.Valavan (General Secretary, Pondicherrry) 

In 1999, National Taekwondo Championship conducted 19th Male Colour belts (seniors), 17th Female (Seniors) and 7th Black belt male (seniors) held at Ajmer, Rajasthan and (72 Students from Tamilnadu Participated) won 2 bronze medals. In the same event, Master P.K.Ganesan’s students 5 of them got qualified as Black belt holders.

In 2002, Master P.K.Ganesan’s students attended black belt competition held at Lucknow. Nine students qualified as black belt holders examined by Grand Master Jimmy R.Jagtiani.

In 2003, Taekwondo Academy of Tamilnadu name has been changed as Taekwondo Association of Tamilnadu on 31.03.2000 affiliated to Taekwondo Federation of India. In the same year, Master P.K.Ganesan attended 9th Male Black Belt, 19th Female and 21st Male Colour belt National Taekwondo Championship held at Chandigarh as a Referee and won 1 silver and 4 bronze medals by his team (24 students from Tamilnadu participated)

In 2004, he attended as a Referee in 20th Female, 22nd Male Junior and sub Junior and 1st MUYE National Taekwondo Championship held at Karnel Singh Stadium in New Delhi, 63 students from Tamilnadu participated and won 22 gold medals by his team.

      
In 2005, he attended as a Referee in 10th Male Black Belt, 22nd Male Colour Belt & 20th Female National Taekwondo Championship held at K.D.Singh Babu, Lucknow. 25 students from Tamilnadu participated. In that competition, 5 black belts qualified won 2 silver and 6 bronze medals by his team.

In 2006, he attended as a Referee in 12th Male Black belt Senior, 24th Male Colour Belt Senior, 22nd Female Senior, 24th Junior & sub junior Boys& girls National Taekwondo Championship and 1st Raj Memorial Taekwondo Championship competition held at Mahanagar, Lucknow organised by TFI co-organised by Javed Taekwondo Academy and won 2 gold, 3 silver & 4 bronze medals by his team (63 students from Tamilnadu participated)

                                                     


In 2006, he attended as coach in 1st Goodwill International event organised by TFI participated 10 students from Tamilnadu and won 1 silver and 1 bronze medals (P.Murugesan 1st DAN Black Belt International-silver medal, T.Purusothaman Black Belt International-bronze medal) 

  
In 2007, he attended as a Referee in 13thMale Black Belt senior, 25th Male colour belt senior, 23rd Female senior and 25th Junior & Sub Junior National Taekwondo Championship held at Mahanagar, Lucknow, participated 55 students from Tamilnadu and 6 Black Belts qualified and won 6 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze medals by his team.

In 2008, he attended as a Referee in 27th National Taekwondo Championships (15th Male Black Senior, 27th Male Colour belt Senior, 25th Female Senior and 27th Junior & Sub Junior) held at Lucknow. 72 students from Tamilnadu participated and 4 Black Belts qualified and won 6 gold, 5 silver and 16 bronze medals by his team.





  
In 2008, Master P.K.Ganesan attended as a Referee in 28th National Taekwondo Championship competition held at Kolkatta. 27 students from Tamilnadu participated and won 2 silver and 6 bronze medals by his team.

In 2008, Master P.K.Ganesan and Master P.Thangavel (Secretary-Taekwondo Association of Tamilnadu) conducted 9th Tamilnadu State Taekwondo Championship organised by S.Rajasekaran Taekwondo Association of Villupuram district. Nearly 550 students participated from 23 districts.


       
        
In 2009, Master P.K.Ganesan attended as a Referee in 29th National Taekwondo Championship competition held at Lucknow. 108 students from Tamilnadu participated and won 6 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze medals by his team.

In 2009, 24 students qualified as Black Belt holders trained under Master P.K.Ganesan examined by Peter Jagtiani held at Head Quarters, Taekwondo Association of Tamilnadu, Mettur, Salem.


In 2009, Master P.K.Ganesan and Master P.Thangavel  attended 10th state championship programme in 2009 organised by Channa K.Nagaraj Taekwondo Association of Madurai district at Devasakayam Matriculation School( 480 students participated from 24 districts)

      
In 2010, Master P.K.Ganesan and Master P.Thangavel  attended 11th state championship programme in 2009 organised by Taekwondo Association of Madurai district at PTR college of Engineering and Technology, Madurai. 510 students participated from 25 districts.


In 2010, Master P.K.Ganesan attended as a Referee in 30th National Taekwondo Championship competition 18th Male Black Belt, 30th Male Colour belt, 28th Female Senior and 30th Junior and sub Junior, Pee Wee boys and girls open national and 10th Muye competition held at Chennai. 133 students from Tamilnadu participated and won 5 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals by his team.

   
In 2011, Master P.K.Ganesan and Master P.Thangavel attended as a Jury South India Taekwondo Championship organised by Master M.Ilangovan (Taekwondo Association Pondicherry). 5 state students (Tamilnadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala) participated.

In 2011, Master P.K.Ganesan and Master P.Thangavel attended as Jury in 9th National Bamboo-Aikido Championship, South India Karate and Taekwondo Championship 2011 organised by Master M.Ilangovan Pondicherry State United Karate-do Association.

In 2012, 32 students of Master P.K.Ganesan qualified as Black Belt holders at BHEL sports club, Trichy.

In 2014, Master P.K.Ganesan and Master P.Thangavel attended as a Jury in 2014 India Open National Taekwondo championship organised by Roy’s Taekwondo Academy inaugurated by Olympic Champion and Hollywood star Grand Master Sayed Najem

                                 
In 2017, Master P.K.Ganesan and Master P.Thangavel (Secretary-TATN) attended as a Jury in International Martial Arts Championship 2017 (Karate, Kickboxing, Taekwondo, Bamboo-Aikido) conducted by State Karate Association, Pondicherry Olympic Association and Bamboo-Aikido Federation of India at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor stadium Pondicherry.


In 2017, Master P.K.Ganesan and Master P.Thangavel attended as a Jury in Tamilnadu State Sub Junior and Junior Taekwondo Championship 2017 held at Pudukottai organised by S.Karthikeyan Taekwondo Secretary-Pudukottai. 550 students participated from 24 districts.

Honoring a Champion

On 13.01.2018 our Honourable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Edappadi K.Planichamy came to opening ceremony of rejuvenation of Mettur Dam Park, at that time he honoured our Master’s Student Mr.Lakshmanan who won Gold medal in International Taekwondo tournament held at Pondicherry. Salem District Collector Ms.Rohini and local government officials also participated and wished our Master P.K.Ganesan and his students for the endeavour.
